On Dead Chickens by Harry Whitehead

Harry Whitehead (On Dead Chickens)’s first novel, The Cannibal Spirit, told the story of a First Nations man tried for cannibalism in 1900 Vancouver. It was reviewed as ‘powerful, brave, ambitious’ (Globe & Mail), ‘a unique work, compelling, complex, thought-provoking and impressive’ (Quill & Quire). He’s published short stories, reviews, essays and more in a variety of genres. He is associate professor of Creative Writing at the University of Leicester, where he directs the Centre for New Writing and the annual free literature festival, Literary Leicester. Before academia, he worked for many years in the film business.

Hats by Karen Kao

Karen Kao (Hats) is the winner of the 2022 Kenyon Review Short Nonfiction Contest and a nominee for the Pushcart Prize, VERA, and Best of the Net. Joy (Or, It’s Time) by Amy Cotler

Amy Cotler (Joy (Or, It’s Time)) worked as a culinary professional before turning to creative writing. Her short pieces have appeared in various literary magazines, including Hinterland. She was a leader in the farmto- table movement, and lectured widely on the subject. Cotler also taught at Culinary Institute of America and The Institute for Culinary Education, hosted food forums for The New York Times, authored five cookbooks, and created more than 1000 recipes for Joy of Cooking and other publications. Cotler lives in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, with her husband, an artist, and their dog, Remy.

Eating Cornflakes with Patrick Moore by Dave Wakely

Raised in South London, Dave Wakely (Eating Cornflakes with Patrick Moore) has worked as a musician, university administrator, poetry librarian and editor in cities across Europe. His short stories and poems have been shortlisted for the Manchester Fiction and Bath Short Story awards, and appeared in numerous journals and anthologies, including most recently Impossible Archetypes, The Lonely Crowd, Lunate, Prole and We’re All In It Together: Poems for a disUnited Kingdom (Grist Books). One of the organisers of the Lodestone Poets and Milton Keynes Literature Festival, he lives in Buckinghamshire with his husband and too many books, CDs and guitars. He tweets as @theverbalist.

Travellers over the Fields by Adrian Tissier

Adrian Tissier (Travellers over the Fields) is a writer and performer, currently studying for an MA in Creative Non- Fiction at UEA. He has delivered creative writing workshops and performed award-winning storytelling and poetry events at the Manchester Literature Festival and Buxton Festival Fringe. Previously he worked for the National Trust, specialising in delivering workshops and training for environmental interpretation and inspiring immersive experience, and has presented at conferences nationally and internationally. Apparitions, Dust by Richard Skelton

Richard Skelton (Apparitions, Dust) is an artist from northern England. His work – writing, music, artworks, films – is rooted in the particularities of specific landscapes, from the moors of Lancashire to the fells of Cumbria, the karst hills of western Ireland to the fjords of eastern Iceland. He is codirector, with the Canadian poet Autumn Richardson, of Corbel Stone Press, one of the foremost British small presses dedicated to publishing work that is focused on landscape and the natural world. For the past half-decade he has lived on the rural border of Scotland and England.

Ali Seegar (And Who Would I Then Have Been?) writes fiction, non-fiction and poetry for all age groups. Publications include her children’s book series, ‘Tommy Turner’s Travels’. In 2022 she won the London Independent Story Prize with her short story Nothing Happens Until Something Moves. Ali started her professional life as a dancer until a knee injury forced her to stop. She now lives in Luxembourg, where she regularly visits schools and libraries to give creative writing workshops, and has recently graduated from the University of Oxford’s Creative Writing diploma with distinction. She is currently working on the first book of a YA fantasy series.

Jarred McGinnis (In Billions of Years the Sun will Swallow the Earth) was chosen by The Guardian as one of the UK’s ten best emerging writers. His debut novel The Coward was selected for BBC 2’s Between the Covers, BBC Radio 2’s Book Club and listed for the Barbellion Prize. The French edition won the First Novel Prize and was selected for the prestigious Femina prize. His current project The Mountain Weight won the 2023 The Eccles Centre & Hay Festival Writer’s Award.

Fear and Hope in Covid Times by Lim Siang Jin

Lim Siang Jin (Fear and Hope in Covid Times) is a self-taught artist who has been painting since the mid-1970s. At 69, he has had three excursions into art: years at university in Britain as a student and as a rookie journalist in Malaysia (1973-1982); time he spent at a Malaysian policy research institute as head of publications (1985- 1991); and during and after the Covid lockdowns (2020-2022). There was a gap of 30 years (1989-2020) when he hardly produced anything new. During much of the three decades, he was deeply involved in newspaper publishing, communications, and branding and marketing.

Candice Kelsey (Failure to Stop) [she/her] is a poet, educator and activist in Georgia. She serves as a creative writing mentor with PEN America’s Prison Writing Program. Her work appears in Grub Street, Poet Lore, Lumiere Review, Hawai’i Pacific Review and The Worcester Review among other journals. Edvige Giunta (Wanna Dance?) was born in Sicily and lives in the United States. She is the author of Writing with an Accent: Contemporary Italian American Women Authors and co-editor of six anthologies, including The Milk of Almonds: Italian American Women Writers on Food and Culture, and Talking to the Girls: Intimate and Political Essays on the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire. Julie Zuckerman‘s (Abbaye de Valloies) debut novel-instories, The Book of Jeremiah, was published in May 2019. Her writing has appeared in CRAFT, Jewish Women’s Archives, Crab Orchard Review, SFWP Quarterly, Atlas & Alice, and Sixfold.
